Limit Switches Prevent Overtravel and Excessive Force

  • Keep commercial equipment operating within safe boundaries with limit switches.

  •

    Grabbing, lifting, pushing and other forceful equipment functions can do real damage unless properly monitored. Limit switches help keep equipment within safe operating boundaries, and OTTO Controls recommends specifying ones that can do that job while standing up to harsh environments.

    Limit switches are commonly used to prevent overtravel on:

    • mechanical arms on harvesters, logging forwarders and front-end loaders;
    • buckets on excavators and skid steer loaders;
    • scissor lifts and booms; and
    • stabilizer legs on utility vehicles.

    Cranes and forklifts often use limit switches in their lifting mechanisms. As soon as the lift reaches a certain point, it activates the switch, telling the equipment’s control system to stop lifting. This is helpful to prevent overloading equipment and ensure safe movement and handling of heavy materials in warehousing, manufacturing and shipping operations.

    In the grasping levers of telehandlers and garbage trucks, limit switches control the amount of force applied.

    OTTO’s P6-4 commercial limit switches are built with one-piece, stainless-steel housing that withstands high force, shock, vibration and extreme temperatures ranging from -55°C to 105°C. They are sealed watertight to IP68S and IP69K. Ball and roller plunger actuator styles are available with single- or double-pole circuitry.
